Remote Jobs
Experience
New Zealand
When I first arrived in NZ, I was still working as a freelancer for two projects that I started in Germany prior to my departure:
- "Digital Door Signs" with the AVS
- "In Kontakt bleiben" with the HS Flensburg
I quickly realised all the advantages that came with working remotely. Especially the freedom it gave me to work from wherever I felt comfortable and more productive.
Such places were cafés like Remedy in Auckland and Dukes in Melbourne, where I spent hundreds of hours programming for the aforementioned projects and some personal ones like Emotes On My Mind.
The only thing I had to adjust to were time-differences for meetings, but that wasn't really a problem because I'm always up late anyway :)
Future plans
I'm very much looking forward to working more remote jobs, either employed or as a freelancer. I was never the biggest fan of going to the same office every day, and I'd rather choose freely to be more productive and get work done.
When I lived in Melbourne, I had a bunch of like-minded people in cafés sitting next to me on a daily basis to work on their projects and meet with clients. It's a thriving culture that I'd love to get back into!
